Lace Up For The Girls On The Run 5K

Girls on the Run

Now that spring is in full swing, we all want to spend more time outside enjoying the nice weather and the longer days. And before we jump to summer here in Tennessee, we also all want to enjoy some exercise outside. If you’re looking for a chance to stretch your legs, consider signing up for the upcoming Girls on the Run 5K.

About the Girls on the Run 5K

The Girls on the Run 5K will be Saturday, May 4. The 5K starts at 8 a.m., but on-site registration starts at 7. This race will be at Shelby Park. You can find the park at 1900 Davidson Street, Nashville.

This event is open to the whole community! Girls participating in the Girls on the Run program and their coaches are already registered. Girls in the program will also get running buddies for the day who will stick with them at their pace for the whole 5K. Running buddies will need to register for the race.

And if you’re not a volunteer but just want to run the race or support the Girls on the Run mission, you can still participate! Adult 5K registration, for participants 13 and older, is $30. Youth 5K registration is $20, and the Kids 1 Mile Fun Run, open to kids under 12, is free.

About Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run is more than a one-day race, though. This organization trains coaches to lead teams of girls through a ten-week program with a curriculum that includes discussions, activities, and running games. Girls on the Run helps girls in the 3rd through 8th grades develop skills to navigate the world and establish a life-long focus on health and fitness. At the end of the program, the girls complete a service project and then celebrate with a 5K event.

Volunteer opportunities with Girls on the Run range from serving as a 10-week coach to a race day run buddy to volunteering at the 5K.
